Let Your Kids Go Batty This Halloween
Although there really is nothing to fear about bats, and they dont really attack people to drink their blood nor are they blind, its fun to let your imagination run wild, especially around Halloween. The days are growing shorter, the air is crisp, and the leaves are dying-the perfect conditions to let your kids go batty. This year, forget the ghosts and witches and take a cue from Edgar Allan Poe and plan your Halloween party around these scary black mammals. Find everything you need for a horror-ble party that will drive your guests batty, from invitations, to bat crafts, to games.
InvitationsUse a white paint pen to write party details on black bat-shaped cut-outs. Glue onto orange craft paper and send out to guests.
    Decorations:
Set the mood for your party by hanging inverted bats made out of black construction paper from trees or the entrance to your house
Trim the front door with bat decals or cut-outs. Add a banner with a scary saying.
Carve bat shapes into pumpkins and display on the front porch and inside the house. For an extra ghoulish effect, light candles and place inside the pumpkins.
Using black and orange ribbon, hang bat shapes from the ceiling along with black and orange balloons.
Make a bat banner out of construction paper
For your a table center decoration paint a large, bare tree branch black and attaching black construction paper or plastic bats to it.
Spread bat-shaped confetti on tabletops and counters.
Bat Hunt GameFun Halloween activtiyHide some toy bats or construction paper bats around the house inside or outside before guest arrive. Give each guest a paper bag and a flashlight and turn off the lights or go outside. Have guests search for the hidden bats. The person who finds the most bats is the winner. Give a small prize to the winner if desired. (Variation: You could have one special bat for guests to find, and the person who finds that bat gets a prize too.)

Owl and Bats Halloween GameYou will need either some plastic or rubber bats. There should be one less bat than the number of players. For example, if you have 6 players, use 5 bats. Before the game, color or paint a spot on the bottom of each bat. Have children sit in a circle. Put the bats, marks facing down, on the floor in the middle of the circle. Have children choose one bat. The child without the bat is the owl. Have the owl sit in the middle of the circle. The owl points to one child and tries to guess the color of the spot on that childs bat. If the owl guesses the correct color, the child with the bat runs around the circle and the owl tries to catch him/her before he/she sits down at his/her spot again. If the owl catches the child with the bat, he/she will be a bat again. If not, the bat takes a turn to be the owl.
Party FavorsVisit your local party store or discount store, looking for inexpensive bat-related novelties such as key chains, plastic toys, jewelry, etc.
Bat Cookie Decorating Activity/SnackLet children decorate their own bat-shaped sugar cookies. Set up a table with paper plates, plastic knives, napkins along with sugar cookies cut in bat shapes, different colors of frosting, sprinkles, candy corn, etc.
    Snacks/Drinks
Ice cupcakes with black and add bat-shaped edible decorations.
Use bat-shaped cookie cutters to make bat sandwiches or pancakes. Using a bat shaped cookie cutter, cut flour tortillas into bat shapes. Lightly brush both sides of each bat shape with oil. Place tortilla shapes on cookie cutter and place in oven. Broil tortilla shapes, flipping chips once when they begin to brown. When brown on both sides, sprinkle lightly with salt or a mixture of cinnamon and sugar.
Bat grog: Combine 2 cups grape juice, 2 cups lemon-lime soda, lime sherbet, and lemon sherbet. Chill.

Craft Ideas for Kids: For Summer Time Fun

  • Sep 05, 2010 from khemso(Hassan Khamis Eliwah) in *
khemso Craft Ideas for Kids: For Summer Time Fun
Summer vacation is a blast for kids and incorporating things where they can be doing educational activities, is even better. Let them enjoy summer crafts for kids to develop their cognitive skills and expand their imagination.
Doing crafts promotes creativity and develops values like openness, cooperation and perseverance. It also helps kids express themselves and build their self esteem. This is the best opportunity to teach your kids values while building a stronger relationship with them as a parent.
There are so many ideas you can offer your children, like gardening, beach fun, camping and wearable crafts. Your child can learn how to do cards, gifts, paper folding and string crafts, etc.
The great thing about doing crafts is that you can start a work, without spending much. All you need to do is make use of old and worn materials, found in your homes. Things like wires, beads, buttons, strings, clips, newspapers, caps and coloring materials.
The thing that makes a summer crafts program fun and exciting for kids are those crafts that they can wear, headbands, pins, jewelry and shirts. I use to love the Indian bead jewelry I got to make as a kid. Your child can design his or her own headband into something that reflects his personality. Have them add some butterflies, ribbons and small stuffed animals on the headband by using a glue gun or other adhesives.
You can encourage the children to make use of all these different materials as accessories, dangling earrings, made of paper clips or a necklace with a plastic flower pendant. This can be a lot of fun for your child and who knows, maybe even an income generating skill in the future.
All children love to do hand paintings on their plain shirts. They enjoy using different colors as they design their own shirts. They usually have a real sense of accomplishment when they are allowed to use their creativity and expression.
Encourage the children to collect seashells and sand during summer vacation. Then youll have more material to use in making bracelets, necklaces and even house decorations. Shells and coral can be used beautifully with picture frames, bags, containers and even hanging decor.
For a very cool beach theme idea, have your child soak somewhite sand in watercolor and dry it. Place the colored sand in a glass container with some small shells. This is also a unique gift idea.
Making use of recyclable materials teaches kids about being eco-friendly and making good use of all our resources. Plastic containers and boxes can be wrapped with colorful papers and then decorated with strings and buttons, however your child likes. Use colorful glue or glitters for an amazing appearance.
Another great craft for kids thats fun and fairly inexpensive is paper Mache crafts. Its an activity thats easy and still allows the kids to express their creative nature.
Cover an area with newspaper to reduce the mess.
Decide on the design or animals to be created. Suggest they make a piata so they can have more fun busting the goodies from the outside. Or, they may want to hang it in their bedroom.
Use balloons for the core of the paper Mache item.
Tear newspaper, colored paper or copy paper into 1 strips. Make some longer and shorter strips. Set the piles aside by length and color.
Make the paste by adding 1 cup of flour to 5 cups of water.
Boil this for 3 minutes. (Stir constantly to keep lumps from forming.)
Allow the mixture to cool. Then, pour into large mixing bowl.
The consistency should be smooth and paste-like.
Dip the newspaper strips in the paste. Squeeze the access paste off.
    10. Place the pasty strips on the mold and smooth out the wrinkles.
    11. Continue placing strips on the mold till its covered with about four layers.
    12. Allow the mold to dry completely.
    13. Add more layers to get to the desired thickness and allow drying between each new layer.
    14. With sharp scissors, carefully cut a straight line in the middle for the mold.
    15. Carefully open the slit area if youre going to use it for a piata. Fill with treats and candy.
    16. Seal the slit that you just cut with clear tape.
    17. Paint the mold with watercolors and enjoy!

Strauss ton sets up England victory

  • Sep 12, 2010 from mikisandi(Mikisandi Frosani) in *
mikisandi Andrew Strausss century led England to a 2-0 lead in the series but he had the umpire to thank for giving him a life

10.10am: Yes: its still going on. Hello and welcome to live coverage of the second of five (yes: five) one day internationals between England and Pakistan, a dual limited overs series that has so far taken in a grand tour of crickets geographical fringe and today rejoins with at 10.15 start in Leeds. In September. Will we ever be set free? This is a summer of cricket that seems to have been going on for ever without actually at any point really starting in earnest. It is hard to know what to compare it to in terms of elongated emptiness: a seven-hour flight delay in some godforsaken departure lounge, 12 hours of yodeling phantom contractions, a 12-course Chinese takeaway. Got to be honest Im still feeling a bit empty.

10.11am: Having said that another match is another match and Pakistan have won the toss and will bat first. I actually still quite fancy them to win some of these games: I think England have become a little overconfident in their abilities in short form cricket and Pakistan are still a very talented bunch. There are apparently runs in this pitch. Both teams are unchanged.

10.14am: Sunny and fresh in Yorkshire and local chap Tim Bresnan is going to open the bowling in gorgeous sunshine.

1st over: Pakistan 6-0 (K Akmal 3, Hafeez 0) Bresnan opens with a jaffa that nips away past the groping prod of Kamran Akmal, then follows it up with a shoved-down-legside wide. Would be nice to see Akmal rescue his tour with some runs here. He isnt a lovely batsman but he is certainly a powerful one. Should say Pakistan have some very vociferous early morning support here. Akmal pushes a two through cover to get off the mark and is greeted by a loud roar. Am I being too negative? A rollicking first innings from Pakistan here and the series will come alive.

2nd over: Pakistan 10-0 (K Akmal 7, Hafeez 0) Anderson opens up from the other end with the breeze behind him and he is instantly whipped off his hip for four by akmal. Lovely shot . On Sky Ramiz Raja remarks that he avoided the pork vindaloo at Ian Bothams recent barbecue. I love Ramiz Raja he has been far Pakistans man of the summer so far. A loud appeal as Anderson thuds the next delivery into Akmals front pad and but it was missing leg stump. Not a great deal of swing here, but then its Headingly under clear skies and they always say it changes in a jiffy when the cloud comes in.

3rd over: Pakistan 19-0 (K Akmal 15, Hafeez 1) Bresnan continues to bowl straight with no great movement and at a mid-80s hopefully-bustling kind of pace. He drifts on to Akmals pads again her whips it away, a kind of hip-high half-pull for another four. Akmal looks very well balanced and clam out there. The next ball is fuller and he drives through mid-on for another four. These are some nice batting conditions and Akmal looks in the nick to make the most of it. Geoff Roberts is in discursive mood: Thought Id start you off with a few suggestions to liven up your day. Why is England so poor at all the sports that require speed, skill, reflexes and, yes, a quick brain. For instance, Basketball, Tennis, Downhill skiing, ice hockey, Lacrosse. Anybody see that basketball game between Turkey and Serbia yesterday? Now theres nailbiting tension and great playacting too. With cheerleaders. makes cricket seem rather staid and pedestrian, dont you think? The British are very good at sports where you sit down. Rowing. Cycling. Driving.

4th over: Pakistan 19-0 (K Akmal 15, Hafeez 1) Hafeez looks a little more rusty facing Anderson, rather nervous as he looks to defend, no sense of nicking a single or turning over the strike somehow. Anderson completes a gun-barrel straight maiden, ever ball on or outside off stump. And David Horn writes: Hi Barney just to let OBO readers know that yesterday I ran the half marathon in aid of Afghan Connection, following up from Andy [Bull]s excellent article earlier this year on Afghan cricket. Thanks in no small part to OBO readers, I raised over 600 so I wanted to take the first opportunity to thank them all. And of course, the Just Giving page is still live, should anyone else feel like contributing.

5th over: Pakistan 31-0 (K Akmal 27, Hafeez 1) Its a different game down the other end as Akmal drives Bresnans first ball, which is a little overpitched, dreamily square past cover for four, and then inside edges a hoick round the corner for another boundary. That was a horrible ball short and legside and Bresnan has been a bit all over the shop on his home ground. And there we go again as Akmal drives him through mid-off for his third four of the over, moving on to 27 off 23 balls and Bresnan has gone for 25 off his three overs. Funny, Bresnan, hes very convincing in Twenty 20 but not so much in any other form. I have a feeling that might be his pigeon-hole.

    6th over: Pakistan 33-0 (K Akmal 27, Hafeez 3) Oh, I say...

Party Goods Are Important to Your Dollar Store Startup | Article Site

  • Dec 05, 2011 from myloweb in Business
myloweb If you are considering a dollar store startup, then likely one of the biggest sets of questions staring at you is associated with how to properly layout your store and where you will find the right products to stock the shelves of your soon to open store. If you are in that position, then don’t forget party goods. There are some great advantages to developing a strong party department following. In this article I focus on three of the most important reasons to establish and maintain a complete display of everyday, holiday and seasonal party items in your store. If you are about to complete a dollar store startup be sure to read this article with care.

    #1) Demand

Offering a full assortment of dollar store party department items sets you up for lots of traffic. Be sure to examine offering not only core party goods such as party favors, decorations and plates, plastic goods and other party items. Add in a full selection of greeting cards, ribbons, bows, balloons, wrapping paper and gift bags as well as holiday and special occasion items to maximize the impact and sales. Party is one area where adding more mainstream items means more sales to your business.

    #2) Repeat Business

One of the great things about party items is the continual need for your loyal shoppers to return time after time for more. First there is aunt Mollie’s birthday, then a favorite cousin’s wedding, an anniversary, and more. The list just goes on and on. Each time your shoppers will come back to your store first. And of course if you have the right party items they will stick around. That means while they are there they will examine all the other great bargains you have to offer in your store. What started as a 50¢ ‘Get Well Soon’ greeting card turns into a cartload of items assembled from departments across your store.

    #3) Profit Margin

In addition to high-volume, party goods mix in some solid profit margins. It takes a little investigation to find the best wholesale buying opportu
