khemso Exciting Halloween Food For Kids 3 Spooky Recipes
Halloween parties can be utmost fun. While we all focus on the decorations and attire, food adds true life to the party. Good selection of items might not be enough. You can set the right Halloween mood with the apt Halloween dishes.
Yes! Halloween crafts can also be edible. So much so that even kids now-a-days love to make their own food crafts.
While, Internet is a real hub for loads of such recipes, we can give you a kick start to these spooky edibles:
    1. Edible Dirt
Kids at the tender age love eating dirt amazed? Yes, its true! So, how about creating a Halloween food craft that looks just like dirt?
For this take clear & small plastic cups. Place scoops of chocolate ice cream at the bottom, one in each cup.
Now provide the kids with sealed zip-loc baggie filled with Oreos. Instruct the child to smash these cookies as much as they can. That is turning these cookies in to real small bits.
Now pour the cookie bits on the top of your ice cream.
    Further add some gummy worms.
Finally, dig in to hard with a spoon.
Yummy dirt is ready to eat!
    2. Bloody Fingers
For this you need some cocktail wieners and one refrigerated biscuit dough can.
Now, around the bottom of the wiener, wrap the dough. Watch that you leave the tip showing.
From the tip of the wiener that we had left unwrapped, cut an oval piece. This would be the fingernail.
At a temperature of 350 degree Celsius, cook it in the oven. Check that the biscuits should get slightly browned.
    Now, let them cool down.
Add some ketchup in place of the fingernail.
Your bloody fingers are ready to be the talk of the party!
    3. Edible Eyeballs
Halloween food crafts for kids must look scary but at the same time should be simple to prepare, so that they are easy for the kids to follow.
This food craft is perhaps the simplest of all. Take deviled egg and add a black olive to show the eye black in the middle.
Now coming to the deviled eggs they are quite easy easy.
Boil the eggs for around 5 minutes and remove them from the heat.
Let them be as it is the hot water for around 10 more minutes.
Now run these eggs under cold water and then refrigerate them. We must do this as cold eggs can be peeled of easily.
Once they cool down, peel the eggs. Cut each of them in half length-wise.
Remove the yolk or the yellow portion and collect it in a bowl.
With the help of a fork, smoosh these yolks in order to get a crumbly consistency.
Now, add some mayonnaise. Make sure to put little quantity at a time so that the stuffing remains thick and has a creamy mixture. Excess of mayonnaise would make it quite running.
For some extra flavor add mustard.
Fill the yolk mixture in the egg white with a spoon.
Last, as said earlier, press in the black olives and the edible eyeballs are ready to scare!

Halloween: History, Fun Facts, and Resources to Plan Parties and Make Decorations

  • Sep 16, 2010 from thefreeresource(The Free Resource) in *
    thefreeresource

History and Fun Facts about Halloween
Halloween wasnt always the silly child-centered holiday that it is today. It had some ritualistic, religious and serious roots, beginning as early as the 1st century AD. Read on to learn more about this increasingly less-spooky holiday including how it began, what it is today and how to make the most of Halloween this year.
    Who originally celebrated Halloween?
It is thought that the Romans and the Druids were the original celebrators of Halloween. The Roman celebration took place on October 31, and was held in honor of the goddess of fruit trees, Pomona. An ancient gathering of Priests in England, the Druids, later added the lord of the dead, Samhain, to the list of honorees on October 31 and November 1. These groups of people believed that on October 31, there were hoards of ghosts, spirits, witches, goblins and evil apparitions surrounding them. The celebrations of Romans and Druids were centered around a day of sacrifice, while surrounding themselves with cats, which were believed to be holy animals.
    Why do we celebrate Halloween?
In the Middle Ages, the Roman Catholic Church decided to make the pagan holiday into a Christian holiday. It was at this time that the purpose of Halloween became a day to remember and pray for saints that had passed away. They renamed November 1 All Saint Day, and October 31st became the All Hallowed Evening.
    What year did Halloween start?
Halloween first began around 10 AD, in the area that now belongs to the country of Ireland. As mentioned above, the Druids celebrated the holiday on October 31st because this date marked the end of the harvest season, which they considered to be the end of their year. The end of October for them was what New Years Eve is throughout the world today.
Where did the name Halloween come from?
The name Halloween was originally used long after the day had been celebrated as a pagan holiday. The Roman Catholic Church adopted the celebration as a Christian holiday in the 7th century, and from thereon called the day before All Saints Day (November 1), All Hallows Eve. The origin of the words All Hallows came from Middle English Alholowmesse (or All-hallowmas), which meant All Saints Day. This word was modified to All Hallows, and thus, the day before All Hallows, or All Saints Day became known as All Hallows Eve.
    How to make Halloween decorations?
    1. Halloween Ghosts Make the head of the ghost first by crunching up a ball of toilet paper. Cover the toilet paper with a tissue, gathering the tissue underneath the ball and tying it with a piece of string or a rubber band. Turn the ghost over and hang from the ceiling or rest on the table. Scary!
    2. Glowing Ghosts Place an activated mini glow stick inside a balloon and inflate the balloon. Cover the balloon with a white napkin or white pillowcase. Secure the white cloth to the balloon using string or double-sided tape. Hang outside somewhere so that the decoration eerily moves in the wind.
How can I make an alcoholic punch for Halloween?
    1. Sewer Punch Mix 1 bottle vodka, 7 cups fresh orange juice with lots of pump, 2 liter bottle or dr. Pepper or Coca Cola, Ice. Serve with ice in a punch bowl. The mixture is a filthy shade of brown and will gross out all your guests!
    2. Bath Scum Punch Mix 1 can frozen lemonade concentrate (mixed with proper amount of water, 2 liters Sprite or 7 Up and 1 bottle vodka. Remove gallon of rainbow sherbet from the freezer. Thaw and stir the sherbet until the mixture turns brownish grey and disgusting. Return the gallon to the freezer to refreeze before the party. Just before the party, place the bowl in its location and add scoops of the sherbet so that they float in a grayish mass on the top of the punch. Serve while solid.
What are some good Halloween games?
    1. Witch Hunt
How to play Witch Hunt? Cut out paper witch hats and hide them around the house. Cut out enough hats so that each child can find between 3 and 6 hates. Color one of the hats a different color. The person that finds this hat wins the grand prize. Give out another prize for the person who finds the most hats. Give out small prizes to all the children playing the game.
    2. Icky Food Guessing Game
How to play the Icky Food Guessing Game on Halloween? Prepare 5 paper bags by lining them with plastic bags inside. This will keep the food from seeping through the opaque paper bag. Put one food in each of the bags.
    Bag 1: mashed bananas (brains),
    Bag 2: peeled grapes (eyeballs),
Bag 3: wet pretzel rods (soggy bones),
    Bag 4: spaghetti cooked (intestines),
Bag 5: dried orange peels (dried/dead skin).
Let children take turns guessing what is in each bag. For an extra challenge, make the children remember which bag contained which item. At the end of the taste, the child that has written down the correct foods in the correct order wins a prize.
    How to make Halloween treats?
    1. Witchcakes These scary treats are chocolate cupcakes with witch-like decorations on top!...

Let Your Kids Go Batty This Halloween

Let Your Kids Go Batty This Halloween
Although there really is nothing to fear about bats, and they dont really attack people to drink their blood nor are they blind, its fun to let your imagination run wild, especially around Halloween. The days are growing shorter, the air is crisp, and the leaves are dying-the perfect conditions to let your kids go batty. This year, forget the ghosts and witches and take a cue from Edgar Allan Poe and plan your Halloween party around these scary black mammals. Find everything you need for a horror-ble party that will drive your guests batty, from invitations, to bat crafts, to games.
InvitationsUse a white paint pen to write party details on black bat-shaped cut-outs. Glue onto orange craft paper and send out to guests.
    Decorations:
Set the mood for your party by hanging inverted bats made out of black construction paper from trees or the entrance to your house
Trim the front door with bat decals or cut-outs. Add a banner with a scary saying.
Carve bat shapes into pumpkins and display on the front porch and inside the house. For an extra ghoulish effect, light candles and place inside the pumpkins.
Using black and orange ribbon, hang bat shapes from the ceiling along with black and orange balloons.
Make a bat banner out of construction paper
For your a table center decoration paint a large, bare tree branch black and attaching black construction paper or plastic bats to it.
Spread bat-shaped confetti on tabletops and counters.
Bat Hunt GameFun Halloween activtiyHide some toy bats or construction paper bats around the house inside or outside before guest arrive. Give each guest a paper bag and a flashlight and turn off the lights or go outside. Have guests search for the hidden bats. The person who finds the most bats is the winner. Give a small prize to the winner if desired. (Variation: You could have one special bat for guests to find, and the person who finds that bat gets a prize too.)

Owl and Bats Halloween GameYou will need either some plastic or rubber bats. There should be one less bat than the number of players. For example, if you have 6 players, use 5 bats. Before the game, color or paint a spot on the bottom of each bat. Have children sit in a circle. Put the bats, marks facing down, on the floor in the middle of the circle. Have children choose one bat. The child without the bat is the owl. Have the owl sit in the middle of the circle. The owl points to one child and tries to guess the color of the spot on that childs bat. If the owl guesses the correct color, the child with the bat runs around the circle and the owl tries to catch him/her before he/she sits down at his/her spot again. If the owl catches the child with the bat, he/she will be a bat again. If not, the bat takes a turn to be the owl.
Party FavorsVisit your local party store or discount store, looking for inexpensive bat-related novelties such as key chains, plastic toys, jewelry, etc.
Bat Cookie Decorating Activity/SnackLet children decorate their own bat-shaped sugar cookies. Set up a table with paper plates, plastic knives, napkins along with sugar cookies cut in bat shapes, different colors of frosting, sprinkles, candy corn, etc.
    Snacks/Drinks
Ice cupcakes with black and add bat-shaped edible decorations.
Use bat-shaped cookie cutters to make bat sandwiches or pancakes. Using a bat shaped cookie cutter, cut flour tortillas into bat shapes. Lightly brush both sides of each bat shape with oil. Place tortilla shapes on cookie cutter and place in oven. Broil tortilla shapes, flipping chips once when they begin to brown. When brown on both sides, sprinkle lightly with salt or a mixture of cinnamon and sugar.
Bat grog: Combine 2 cups grape juice, 2 cups lemon-lime soda, lime sherbet, and lemon sherbet. Chill.

'Free' Plastic Surgery: The Dangers of Bargain Breasts and Botox

  • Jun 24, 2010 from stylelist(StyleList) in Lifestyle
stylelist Filed under: Beauty, News, Skin & Body

As the economy has sputtered and sunk these past couple of years, the billion-dollar cosmetic-surgery industry has also experienced a dip in sales after a decade of double-digit-percent growth.

"Plastic surgery is feeling the effects of the recession, just like many other sectors of the marketplace," said American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery President Dr. Renato Saltz in a statement. "Growth in demand will likely return as the recession eases and baby boomers' offspring begin to explore surgical options."

In the meantime, a new trend has sprung up in our youth-obsessed society: an increase in potentially dangerous cheap plastic surgery. Billboards advertising $2,999 bargain boob jobs from a "surgeon to the stars" have sprouted on the California 405 Freeway, a sign in the Midwest proclaims you can "buy one implant, get one free," while an advertisement near Clearwater, Florida brags $8 Botox injections. Still, as horror stories like the former Miss Argentina who died at age 38 following a butt augmentation prove, bargain-basement procedures have their price.

"To get the cost down, they could be cutting back on things like general anesthesia. They make you feel like the procedure must be easier and not so serious if you're just getting local sedation. Nothing could be further from the truth," says Long Beach, Calif., plastic surgeon Dr. Marcel Daniels.

In fact, The New York Times published an investigative piece on the increase in doctors offering breast augmentation without anesthesia. Dr. Robert L. True of Colleyville, Tx., who is featured in the story, claims to prop up locally sedated patients halfway through surgery so they can confirm that they like the size of their implant before he stitches their breasts closed. Even more shocking: Dr. True is actually a gynecologist.

This type of foray into plastic surgery by a doctor who studied an entirely different branch of medicine is part of what is fueling the cheap-surgery trend. Since patients pay in full up-front, these physicians don't have to deal with health insurance and hiring staff to process billing and claims.

"Many physicians not trained as plastic surgeons can legally perform a surgical procedure in their office. These people often claim that they can do the same procedure as a plastic surgeon under local anesthesia and may even claim they are more scientifically advanced," says Beverly Hills plastic surgeon Dr. John Anastasatos. "The truth is that they don't have surgical privileges at hospitals and surgery centers because they simply are not surgeons and never trained as surgeons."

Everyday folks looking to save a buck aren't the only ones falling prey to unskilled physicians; Olympic gold medalist and "Keeping Up With The Kardashians" star Bruce Jenner suffered for years with a poor face-lift that cut corners by just lifting the topmost layer of skin. Jenner eventually sought the help of Beverly Hills plastic surgeon and CellCeuticals skin-care creator Dr. Garth Fisher, who performed a reconstructive face-lift.

"I basically relaxed one part of his face and tightened and contoured the remainder to achieve features that were more in harmony with each other," says Dr. Fisher. "In an aging face, it is not only the skin that sags but also the deeper layers. It is critical to elevate and mold these layers to provide a much more pleasing and natural result. Just 'shortcut' pulling of sagging skin tight is not good surgery and will seldom give a good result."

The craving for lifts in a downturned market has helped birth discount chains like Lifestyle Lift, which claims to perform a simple procedure that removes the "anesthesia risk and physical trauma" of a face-lift. But experts have doubts. "Face-lifts have been around for 100 years. There are no new cuts to be made, but doctors just market it differently. The Lifestyle Lift is basically a well-marketed mini face-lift with mini results," says Dr. Daniels.
