Creative and Simple Craft Ideas for Mother?s Day!

Creative and Simple Craft Ideas for Mother?s Day!
May is the time to honor and thank mothers, grandmothers, and just-like-a-mom women in your circle of family and friends for all that they do in raising children. We have prepared some special Mothers Day craft gift ideas and fun Mothers Day-inspired activities to share with that special someone.
    Thumbprint Note Cards
Cut a piece of paper to desired size (5 inches by 4 inches is a nice size) and fold in half. Have children place thumb or finger in a stamp pad and make 5 or 6 thumb or fingerprints on front of card. Draw stems and leaves with a green crayon or marker. Extension: Make 5 or 6 cards, tie together with a ribbon, and give as Mothers Day present.
    Hugs and Kisses
Provide children each with a small wooden or cardboard box. Have them paint their box. After the box is dry, let them decorate the box with markers, stickers, sequins, glitter, etc. Next, have children shred some paper (use a variety of colors) and fill the box with it. Have them add some Hersheys Kisses, Hugs, or other candy. Finally have children attach the following poem to the box and then give it to their Mom for Mothers Day.

This is a very special box
Thats just for you from me.
Its filled with hugs and kisses
So youll always think of me.
    Decorative Soap
Cut a piece of felt, decorative paper, or fabric to fit around a bar of soap. Wrap the material around the soap and glue. Let dry. Decorate the top and sides of the bar of soap with small silk flowers, ribbon, lace, sequins, beads, etc.
    Heart Pendant
Mix together one cup flour, one cup warm water, one-fourth cup salt, 2 teaspoons cream of tartar, one teaspoon oil, and a few drops of food coloring. Roll out dough. Use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut out heart shapes. Poke a hole at the top of the heart big enough to thread yarn or ribbon through. Let dry. Paint heart. Spread a thin layer of glue on heart and sprinkle with glitter. Add sequins or small beads if desired. Thread the yarn or ribbon. Wrap in tissue paper or gift wrap.
    Mothers Day Party
Mothers Day is a great reason to have a party with family and close friends. Get everyone together for a breakfast, picnic, brunch, garden party or barbecue. Include friends who are close to your mom if they are not celebrating with their own family, or combine the celebrations to honor all of the moms, grandmothers and just-like-a-mom women in your circle of family and friends.
Mothers Day Activity Mom and I Booklet
Make a Mom and I booklet with your child. On the front cover, glue a picture of you and your child. On the next pages, help your child complete the following: Mom and I like to play __________. Mom and I like to eat __________. Mom and I like to go to __________. Mom and I like to read __________. Mom and I like to watch __________. Assemble the pages to make a booklet.
    Mommys Little Helper
Mothers Day is a great day for children to express how much they appreciate what Mom does for them. Encourage children to help Mom by doing things like dusting, folding laundry, watering plants, clearing the table, etc.

Whether the special woman in your life is your mom, grandmother, sister, or friend, I hope youll enjoy sharing our Mothers Day inspired crafts and handmade Mothers Day cards, games, and activities with that special someone.

Easy Refrigerator Magnets That Kids Can Make

Easy Refrigerator Magnets That Kids Can Make
Summer is just around the corner and soon the kids will be out of school for their Summer vacations. You might be asking yourself, How will I keep the kids busy?
I think these craft ideas are great for bible school, girl scouts, cub scouts, daycare arts and crafts projects and even to keep your little ones entertained if you are a busy mom who works from home.
    Photo Refrigerator Magnet
1 plastic lid from a potato chips canister scraps of construction paper or scrapbooking paperall-purpose white craft gluescraps of ribbon, yarn, lace, rick-rack, buttons, beads, sequins2 piece of magnetchild safety scissorspencilmini-wallet size photo
Have the kids trace around the lid onto a piece of colored paper and cut out the round shape slightly inside the traced line. Glue the paper onto the lid making sure that about 1/8 of the lid shows around the edges. (you want the lid to frame the paper shape). Take the mini-wallet sized photo and glue it in the center of the lid frame. Glue ribbon, yarn, lace or rick-rack around the edges of the lid and a piece of magnet on the back. Kids can also add additional embellishments such as buttons, beads and sequins if desired.
    Walnut Shell Mouse Magnet
empty and clean walnut shell halves2 tiny wiggle eyesbrown colored felt scraps1 1/2 brown chenille stem (pipe cleaner)2 mm pink pom-pomscrap of cardboard1 piece of magnetall-purpose white craft gluechild safety scissors
Cut out two 1/4 diameter circles from brown felt. Cut one piece of brown chenille stem to measure 1 1/2 in length. Take a piece of scrap cardboard and trace around the walnut shell shape and cut just inside your traced line. Place the walnut shell down on the table or work surface with the ridged side up and the shell running vertically (like an oval egg shape). Glue pink pom-pom on front-top side of edge for the mouse nose. Take one of the felt circles and pinch the edges together to form an ear and glue one onto each side of the mouse head; glue the wiggle eyes onto the shell to form the mouse eyes. Let dry for 10 minutes. Flip over the mouse and glue the mouse tail (chenille stem) under the walnut shell leaving 1 of it showing. Glue the cardboard shape to the under belly. Finally, glue your magnet onto the cardboard and let dry.
    Index Cards Art-Work Magnets
Clear Contact Paper or Laminating Sheets3 x 5 blank index cards (no printed lines)markers, crayons, colored pencils, water paints, stickers, etc.2 piece of magnet
Have the kids draw and color on the blank index cards or have them write a poem or a story. When finished, you will want to seal the index card by using clear contact paper or self-stick laminating sheets (office supply store). Glue a magnet piece to the backside and you have an instant refrigerator magnet.
    Recycled Game Piece Magnets
dominoes, playing cards, plastic coins, dice, miscellaneous game pieces, etc.all-purpose white craft gluemagnets (round disk shaped ones work best)
Collect miscellaneous game pieces that are no longer needed and recycle them into refrigerator magnets. All you need to do is glue the magnet onto the back sides and let them dry for 30 minutes. If you are using paper bills (money) from games, you will first want to laminate them or cover them with clear contact paper before gluing the magnet onto the backs.
